The much-loved singer Dagmar Oja, who has captured the hearts of Estonians, needed plastic surgery after significant weight loss. At Health Clinic, she underwent a thigh lift, freeing her from excess skin. Dagmar emphasises that plastic surgery is a personal choice – if you need it, you need it! She jokingly says that her self-confidence has increased by a million per cent!
How did you feel about cosmetic surgery before?
I have never had any experience with cosmetic surgery and I have never had an attitude towards it before. But now I do. Cosmetic surgery is everyone’s personal choice – if you need it, you need it!
What made you think about surgery?
My motivation was significant weight loss, which I have been working on since 2019. Clothes can hide all that ‘extra’ that you do not need to carry around. That was the case for me too. There was too much excess on my thighs that did not retract on its own. Who would not want to look beautiful and confident, whether on the beach or in the bedroom next to their loved one?
How did you end up at Health Clinic and with Dr Simmo?
Since I had shared my thoughts with the universe, the opportunity to work with Health Clinic actually came out of the blue (it should be said that I paid part of the cost of the surgery myself because not everything in life is nor should be free). And well, I did not have to think long because my ‘concern’ was a reality that I could not fight on my own. The clinic recommended Dr Simmo – an AMAZING doctor!
Was there a specific moment or event that solidified your decision to have the surgery?
It was time. The right time.
How did you prepare mentally and physically for the surgery?
To be honest, there was no time to prepare; it all happened so quickly. Since the recovery from the surgery was supposed to take a couple of weeks and I coincidentally had some free time from performances in the second half of October (except for the Sunday Superstar shows), the people at the clinic and I quickly realised that ok, the right time had come and the surgery had to take place soon. And so it did.

What were your main expectations and hopes for the results?
My initial hope was to be back on my feet within five days and make it to the first Superstar show. And I did! I even said, “Just help me get on stage, I will be fine once I am there.” They helped, but moving around was still sooooo difficult.

How would you describe your experience during the post-surgery recovery period?
To my surprise, the recovery was actually very fast – every day something was getting better and moving in the right direction at a fast pace. And I will say one thing – there is no better and faster recovery than having the right people around you. I would like to thank everyone who helped and supported me during this time. The biggest thanks goes to Reio Vilipuu, whose rehabilitation clinic I still go to. He is an incredible expert in the lymphatic system and a person full of wisdom, to whose hands I have entrusted my recovery.

Has the surgery affected your self-esteem and confidence?
Yes, a million per cent, if I may say so.
How have your loved ones reacted to the decision to have surgery and the changes that followed?
Only three or four people knew about it at the time. They were very supportive because it is still my body, my decision, my confidence, my well-being and my satisfaction with my body. I guess I will find out how friends and family react now that this information is public. But my people have always been supportive and I hope they are now too.
How satisfied are you overall with the surgery and your experience?
I am VERY satisfied with this experience! I would like to thank Dr Simmo and certainly all the nurses at the hospital who took such good care of me.
What advice would you give to people who are considering a similar surgery?
If you need it, you need it! People told me that the skin would eventually retract on its own. ‘Someday’ – when will that be?
We want the best right now – we only live once! Good luck to those on this journey!
