A lip lift, or subnasal lip lift, is a surgical procedure to augment the upper lip to reduce the distance between the nose and the mouth, thereby shortening this area. A lip lift gives the lips a fuller, plumper and significantly more youthful appearance.
Create your natural beauty
A lip lift is a delicate surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the upper lip and highlight its beautiful shape. This small but effective procedure lifts and reshapes the upper lip, balancing the proportions of the lips and visually enhancing the red part of the lip, making the lips plumper and fuller, giving the entire face a fresher and more youthful appearance.
A lip lift can be especially beneficial for those who want to restore the youthful fullness of their lips without filler injections or for those whose upper lip has become less expressive over time. It offers a long-lasting solution and a natural result that restores the symmetry of the lips that has diminished with age and gives a new life to the smile.

Additional information on the procedure
As we age, the skin loses its elasticity and certain parts of the face start to change or droop. The elongation of the area between the nose and the upper lip is a great example of such a change in facial structure. Ageing usually results in the pink part of the lip ‘rolling’ inwards, giving the impression of a narrower upper lip. In addition, the upper lip droops and can begin to cover the upper teeth, which can make the mouth and entire face look much older.
A narrow upper lip and a long distance between the lip and the nose are not problems that only affect ageing skin. Some people are born with a relatively long area between the nose and the mouth, resulting in thinner lips. Lip filler injections do not always help in this situation, as there is a limit to how much vertical height can be added to lips without them looking like ‘duck lips’.
The subnasal bullhorn type of lip lift is one of the most common lip lift procedures performed worldwide. The surgeon makes an incision hidden along the lower part of the nose, where the scar remains virtually invisible. The incision is made in the shape of a bull’s horns and a small amount of skin is removed. The middle part of the lip as well as the right and left parts are lifted a few millimetres towards the nose. The result is a fuller upper lip and a smaller distance between the mouth and nose.
The lip lift procedure not only increases the volume of exposed pink lip tissue, but also makes the upper teeth more visible, especially when talking or when the face is at rest. This result gives a noticeably more youthful and beautiful feminine appearance. The upper lip lift procedure itself usually takes about an hour and leaves a very discreet scar. The lip will look fuller immediately after the lip lift, but the final effect will not be seen until the swelling, bruising and scar have completely healed – usually within about three months.
A lip lift is a relatively simple plastic surgery procedure that gives the mouth a more proportional appearance (compared to the rest of the face), improves the shape of the lips and makes them fuller and helps reveal more of the upper teeth, creating a more youthful appearance.
The procedure is an ideal solution for patients who do not want frequent filler injections to maintain the achieved result. However, the procedure can also be combined with filler injections if desired.
You are a suitable candidate for the procedure if…
- You are bothered by the long distance between your nose and upper lip
- You are bothered by your narrow upper lip
- You are looking for a natural and permanent way to make your lips fuller

- You are a smoker and are unwilling or unable to quit smoking for the post-operative recovery period (about two to four weeks)
