Fat Transfer to Bottocks

Lipofilling, or fat transfer, is a procedure where fat is removed from an area where it is not desired and then injected into the desired area (buttocks, breasts, face). The most natural way to shape your buttocks is to do it with your own fat.

Your naturally enhanced beauty

If you wish to increase the size or change the shape of your buttocks and are bothered by areas of your body that do not respond to diet or exercise, then buttock augmentation could be the solution you are looking for. Fat is taken from your own body and redistributed to your buttocks.

Women with contoured, voluminous buttocks can enjoy a proportional body profile. This harmonious type of result can be achieved by injecting the patient’s own body fat. The result is permanent, though significant weight loss will also reduce the fat in the areas where it was transferred.

Additional information on the procedure

Fat transfer to the buttocks is a procedure developed in Brazil, performed while the patient is under general anaesthesia. The surgery involves two steps. Firstly, the surgeon collects the patient’s own fat through liposuction in a sterile closed system to prepare the collected fat for transfer to the buttock area. The most popular areas for collecting fat for transfer to the buttocks are the lower back, waist, hips, thighs and abdomen. This not only provides the necessary fat for transfer but also contours the areas around the buttocks for a better result. The removed fat is then purified with a special device so that the fat cells are ready to enter the buttocks with minimal absorption into the body.

In the second stage, the purified fat is injected into the buttocks through many small injections made at different depths to ensure a uniform, particularly attractive result. This method allows the buttocks to maintain a good shape for a long time. Special attention is paid to the upper part of the buttocks to ensure that the entire hip line looks youthful and natural. The entire procedure usually takes two to four hours.

Suitable candidates for buttock augmentation with fat transfer

Buttock augmentation with fat transfer helps create more natural curves for patients who are unhappy with the shape of their buttocks. It can also add volume and roundness for patients with small or flat buttocks who want to balance their body profile. In general, if you are at least 18 years old and want to give your buttocks a fuller, more rounded appearance, this procedure may be right for you.

To enlarge your buttocks with fat transfer, you need to have enough fat in other areas of your body, as this procedure involves transferring your own fat to the buttocks. If you do not have enough fat, buttock implants can be used as an alternative.

You also need to be in good general health to ensure smooth recovery from the surgery and you must also be at a stable weight. This is important because gaining and losing weight can affect the appearance of the transplanted area after surgery. The ideal candidate also does not smoke, as smoking slows down the body’s ability to heal. If you do smoke, it is important to quit smoking at least temporarily and let your body heal at a normal pace after surgery.

Recovery after buttock augmentation with fat transfer

After buttock augmentation, patients should avoid sitting directly on their buttocks or lying on their back for three weeks after the surgery. During this time, you may wear compression garments to reduce swelling. Patients may experience some pain or discomfort, swelling and bruising after the surgery. Most patients can return to work within two weeks and resume regular activities within four weeks. The swelling usually subsides by the sixth week and at that point you will see the final result.

Results of buttock augmentation with fat transfer

With an experienced surgeon using appropriate techniques, patients are very satisfied with the results of buttock augmentation, as it is a permanent result that provides a more youthful, shapely and curvier appearance to the buttocks and surrounding areas.

What do our patients think?

Fat transfer to the buttocks and important questions

The procedure involves transferring excess fat from one area of the body, such as the thighs or abdomen, to the buttocks. During the procedure, the surgeon uses low-pressure liposuction (Water-Jet) to remove excess fat, then the resulting fat is purified. Finally, the fat tissue is transplanted into the buttocks to give them a more contoured and voluminous look.

Buttock augmentation with fat transfer is possible for patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their buttocks, whether they are shapeless, sagging, small or disproportionately shaped. Before undergoing this surgery, it is essential that you are in good health, have realistic expectations and are in a healthy weight range where it is possible to obtain enough excess fat tissue from another area of the body for transfer.

As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle and a normal weight range, the results of the procedure will be maintained. Although there is a possibility that some of the transferred fat may be absorbed back into the body, in most cases at least 60-80% of the fat tissue remains.

You will see some results immediately, but the swelling and oedema will subside over the next few weeks. The best results will come somewhat later. Over the next few months, the fat content in the buttocks will stabilise. Most patients will see the final result within four to six months.

You will be advised to sit on an inflatable cushion for at least the first three weeks to help reduce discomfort and support a smooth recovery from surgery. Sitting directly on your buttocks too early will hinder the fat transfer procedure.

Most patients can return to work and their normal activities one to two weeks after surgery. The speed of recovery depends on how carefully you follow the post-operative instructions and how quickly your body heals. Rest and a gradual return to your normal routine are the most important aspects of recovery.

You can start walking and light exercise two to three weeks after the surgery. In most cases, it is possible to return to full physical activity six to eight weeks after the surgery, provided the surgery was successful and you are recovering well. Although you may feel fine sooner, it is essential to give the fat transfer time to stabilise the fat in the buttocks so you can achieve the desired results.

This question should actually be: “How much fat can be SAFELY transferred into the buttocks?” If there is a surplus of donor tissue, the real limits are related to the safety of the procedure. Buttock augmentation with fat transfer is a safe procedure in most cases. Transferring more fat increases the risks of fat necrosis, infection and fat embolism. It is difficult to put a number on the amount at which the procedure becomes dangerous, but transferring more than 500 cc of fat per buttock generally approaches the safety limit for this surgery. However, even these larger amounts can be reasonable for healthy patients with the right conditions.

The most common areas for fat harvesting are the lower back, waist, hips, abdomen and thighs. The largest amounts of fat can be safely harvested from these areas. Smaller amounts can also be harvested from the upper back and arms. It is also not uncommon for slimmer women to require liposuction from multiple areas to obtain a sufficient amount of fat.

No. It is safe to use only your own body fat for the transfer.

Yes. Fat can be transferred to any area of the buttocks. In most cases, the goal is to enhance the projection and width of the buttocks.

Yes. After the swelling has subsided and the remaining fat has been removed from the body, the buttocks should feel very natural.

It can take up to three months to recover from the surgery. The stiffness that occurs during this time is related to swelling and fat cell necrosis (cells that did not survive the transfer). As the swelling subsides and the dead cells are absorbed by the body, the buttocks will soften and feel more natural.

Surgical scars are visible at the liposuction sites, possibly also on the buttocks, depending on how the buttocks were accessed for the fat injection and the person’s tendency to scar.

Liposuction incisions are small, up to a centimetre long, and are usually made in areas that can be hidden by clothing or folds of the body’s own skin. Although the scars are small, they are most visible in the first six months after the surgery. They fade over time.

Fat transfer uses a person’s own body fat to achieve the desired buttock shape. It is much easier to achieve a natural appearance and softness of the buttocks with the patient’s own fat. In addition to adding volume to the patient’s buttocks, fat transfer allows fat to be removed from other areas of the body, thus improving the overall contour of the body. Fat transfer is also associated with a lower risk of infection because the patient’s own body tissue is used for the surgery, allowing for faster recovery from surgery.
